   As a hypnotist, once a really strange possession experience came up while I was working with someone, helping them overcome some major deep childhood programming.
   
   This "entity" came through and said that they will not allow this person to be helped.  I mentioned Christ Jesus and the entity just laughed at me, saying, "You can't get rid of of with your silly notions from the Bible!"
   
   It took a while but the Name of Christ Jesus was not the solution.  Sorry.  Sometimes things are beyond Christianity.

   That was one of the most ignorant answers I've heard in awhile. At least do some research on the topic or read the Bible before making such a generalization on demonology. Read the account recorded in Acts 19:13-16,
   
   "Some Jews who went around driving out evil spirits tried to invoke the name of the Lord Jesus over those who were demon-possessed. They would say, "In the name of Jesus, whom Paul preaches, I command you to come out." Seven sons of Sceva, a Jewish chief priest, were doing this. (One day) the evil spirit answered them, "Jesus I know, and I know about Paul, but who are you?" Then the man who had the evil spirit jumped on them and overpowered them all. He gave them such a beating that they ran out of the house naked and bleeding."
   
   Clearly the MENTIONING of Jesus' name does not necessary utilize the POWER of his name. In fact, all power granted to you comes from God Himself. So if you effectively drive out a demon, it was the power of God working through you. Keep in mind, God is under no obligation to work his miracles through you in the first place. Don't think that YOU have the power to drive out demons because you can pronounce a name. In fact, I know of many demonic encounters where it took hours of praying before God drove the spirit out. At the center of this, God is testing our faithfulness, not our ability to utter a name (as the passage in Acts suggest).

   Twice in my life, I have been openly assaulted by demons.  Both times, invoking the name of Jesus Christ was what saved me.  Had I not done that, I would have been toast.
   
   The reason people give in under such pressures is that they do not know to do that.
   
   Now, I realize you may be talking about less apparent experiences with evil spirits, such as temptation.  In that case, things get more complicated.

   Absolute Faith in, (not the name Jesus) but the name of our true savior YESHUA, I find it helpfull to repeat the Holy prayer Our Father...........etc,etc!!! And the truth SHALL set you FREE.  thank-you Thomas O. Loscar Sr.  PS. theyre not spirits actually they ARE demons in the guise of spirits with the intention of trying to decieve one as to diminish ones faith in Yehweh (our true creator!)

   Mentioning JESUS name can calm the storm even if the storm is external or the storm is internal.
   
   It's not the name that is important as the thought, the intention one desires from the name; the faith in the name; ones own imagination of what can happen when the name is called.
   
   So if one doesn't like certain people, or desires certain things to happen, just use your faith and watch the mountain move.
   
   JESUS rewarded a woman by allowing himself to be touched and virtue came out of him to the individual.
   
   He told the person that it was not me but your faith that made you whole.

   I believe that many Christians do not really know the power in the name of Jesus. If they understand that there is Power in His name, they may not have fear. Also scripture tells us that we have power to trample on snakes and scorpions. This is truth, and it is truth we all need to stand on.it is not always the fault of the people, many churches do not teach these scriptures in their entirety.

   Rather glib response when even Jesus had to fast and pray over some.  In other words, if it required "God" to fast and pray, how does a mere human with all his sin and self loathing deal with the most stubborn of "demons"?

    Truly we must become subject to all the scriptures! The word is line by line and precept by precept. Today's society wants the blessings of our LORD and SAVIOR but doesn't want him!We need to come out of our traditions and get into the WORD of GOD more fully and teach the Pure Gospel of Jesus Christ. James4:7 Submit yourselves therefore to GOD. Resist the devil,and he will flee from you. When we submit ourselves unto Jesus we will want to be obedient to his every word,not trying to second guess or diluting his word. We have a hisstory of doing things are way and cutting corners concerning the word of GOD.We can only enter the Kingdom of GOD through obedience to him for He is our base of power, We can't conquer the devil without JESUS!

    Well some people aren't christians. Milions of hindus probably don't feel too comforted by uttering jesus's name. This seems like such an obvious answer.
