Sultan Kosen

The world’s tallest man is Mr. Sultan Kosen. The world’s tallest man has been Mr. Bao Xishun until September 17th, 2009 when Mr. Sultan Kosen took the title. Mr Bao comes from Inner Mongolia, China. He was born in the year 1951 and currently measures 7 feet 8 inches (2.36 metres) tall. Mr. Bao is a herdsman and it was not until the age of 16 years that he started growing faster than normal.

Bao has served in the army and has been a basketball player until rheumatism caught up with him. One of the major things Mr. Bao has been able to do was to remove shards of plastic from the stomachs of two dolphins using his 1.1 metre-long arm in the year 2006.

On September 17th, 2009, Bao Xishun record was broken by Sultan Kosen. Sultan Kosen is a farm worker from Turkey. Sultan’s height is 2.47 m (8 ft 1.2 in). Sultan Kosen also happens to have the largest hands (27.5 cm) and largest feet (36.5 cm). Sultan Kosen who was born in 1983 is also a basketball player.

Sultan Kosen Stops Growing

In the year 2010, Mr. Sultan Kosen was treated at the University of Virginia Medical Center for a disorder called acromegaly and for his abnormal growth. Researchers at the Virginia Medical Center University can confirm that Kosen has stopped growing at a towering height of 8ft 3 ins. Dr. Mary Lee Vance, an endocrinologist, and her team of specialist worked on Kosen. A neurosurgeon by the name Jason Sheehan operated Kosen’s tumor which was spreading to his brain. Thanks to Mr. Sultan Kosen that the university was able to pioneer new treatment for abnormal growth. This new treatment is a medication that helped control the production of growth hormone and stopped his continued growth.

Robert Pershing Wadlow

Mr. Wadlow would always require a leg braces to walk. And despite using leg braces he still managed to be one of the most popular celebrities in American. In 1940, a faulty brace irritated his ankle, causing a blister. This blister went ahead to get infection and it is from that infection that he died aged 22 years. Today, you will find a life-size bronze statue of Mr. Wadlow which was put up at the Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville School of Dental Medicine, in 1985.

But what makes a person to grow that tall? When pituitary gland increases in the volume due to enlargement of its component cells, there results an abnormally high level of human growth hormone which is responsible for the uncontrolled growth.

And finally meet the World's Tallest Couple as they Meet world’s SmallestMan.
